Botswana, plným názvem Botswanská republika, je vnitrozemský stát na jihu Afriky sousedící s Jihoafrickou republikou na jihu, Namibií na západě, Zambií na severu a Zimbabwe na severovýchodě. V letech 1885 až 1966 byla britským protektorátem Bečuánsko, nezávislost získala 30. září 1966. Od svého vzniku si udržuje stabilní zastupitelskou demokracii, která trvá nejdéle ze všech zemí Afriky. Většinu jejího povrchu zabírá poušť Kalahari.
